Distributed Implementation of SIGNAL: Scheduling & Graph Clustering

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper introduces the scheduling strategy and some key tools which have been designed for the distributed implementation of Signal, a real-time synchronous dataflow language. First, we motivate a scheduling strategy with respect to the reactivity and time-predictability requirements bound to real-time computing. Then, several key tools to implement this scheduling strategy are described. These tools are acting on the concept of Synchronous-Flow Dependence Graph (SFD Graph) which defines a generalization of Directed Acyclic Graph and constitutes the abstract representation of Signal programs. The tools presented in this paper are: (a) the abstraction of SFD graphs which enables grain-size tuning according to the target architecture, (b) the notion of scheduling over SFD graphs and (c) qualitative clustering tools based on the notion of Compositional Deadlock Consistency

Le paradoxe de la stratégie nationaliste lors des Troubles en Irlande du Nord de 1981 à 1985 : le tournant du conflit ?

    No full text
The aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate that the period between 1981 et 1985 was a watershed in the conflict in Northern-Ireland, focusing on the evolution of the Nationalist and Republican struggle during these five years. From the 1981 hunger strikes to the Anglo-Irish Agreement signed in November 1985, there was a transition from pure systematic violence to a more pacific and legal participation, particularly through the rivalry between Sinn Féin, Republican party, and the SDLP, Nationalist party opposed to violence. The hunger strikes brought Sinn Féin to the electoral stage. Between Sinn Féin, that supported the Provisional IRA’s armed struggle, and the SDLP that was looking for a political settlement to escape Northern Ireland’s stalemate, the debate was heated. This unstable situation led to the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, that somehow marked the beginning of the peace process in the Province, by establishing a strong and previously unseen link between Great-Britain and the Republic of Ireland in the administration of Northern-Ireland.

The Synchronous Approach to Designing Reactive Systems

    No full text
Synchronous programming is available through several formally defined languages having very different characteristics: ESTEREL is imperative, while LUSTRE and SIGNAL are declarative in style; STATECHARTS and ARGOS are graphical languages that allow one to program by constructing hierarchical automata. Our motivation for taking the synchronous design paradigm further, integrating imperative, declarative (or dataflow), and graphical programming styles, is that real systems typically have components that match each of these profiles. This paper motivates our interest in the mixed language programming of embedded software around a number of examples, and sketches the semantical foundation of the SYNCHRONIE toolset which ensures a coherent computational model. This toolset supports a design trajectory that incorporates rapid prototyping and systematic testing for early design validation, an object oriented development methodology for long term software management, and formal verification at the level of automatically generated object code

Photocatalytic Initiation of Radical Thiol-ene Reactions Using Carbon-Bi2O3 Nanocomposites

A mild, inexpensive, and general photocatalytic initiation protocol for anti-Markovnikov hydrothiolation of olefins using carbon nanomaterial/metal oxide (carbon NM-MO) composites is reported. Graphene oxide (GO), nanodiamonds (ND), and carbon nano-onions (CNO) displaying bismuth or tungsten oxide nanoparticles adhered to the surface and function as highly efficient photocatalysts for thiol?ene ligation under both UV and visible-light-mediated conditions. The straightforward catalyst preparation, excellent overall yields, ease of purification, and broad substrate scope render this a highly versatile method for bioconjugation

Tuning the Photophysical Properties of Aza-BODIPYs in the Near-Infrared Region by Introducing Electron-Donating Thiophene Substituents

International audienceThis study presents the synthesis, the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of new bis- and tetra-substituted azaboron-dipyrromethene (aza-BODIPY) dyes substituted by different electron donating groups connected to the aza-BODIPY core through a thiophene unit. In line with theoretical calculations, experimental measurements point out the positive impact of the thiophene group that behave as a secondary donor group leading to an enhancement of the intramolecular charge transfer process in comparison to previously reported aza-BODIPY dyes. This heterocycle has also been found to tune the oxidative potential and to stabilize the electro-generated species
